7 Reasons Why Qkids Is the Only Company for Me
Wow! It’s hard to believe that it has been three years since I started teaching children in China, from the comfort of my own home, with Qkids. My Name is Naomi, and I have a degree in English teaching, as well as about twenty years of experience teaching English and ESOL, both in the classroom and online.
About five years ago, a company contacted me through a job recruiting site called LinkedIn. They actually called me and explained that the position would be a remote, online teaching position for children and adults in China. It sounded too good to be true, but I decided to give it a whirl and hence discovered the rewarding and complicated business of online teaching. I’ll keep this as short as possible. I have worked for a total of about eight online ESL teaching companies. Qkids tops the charts, hands down. Here’s why:
I have not seen a better platform at all. The platform is more interactive than any other that I know of, but it is not overwhelming or distracting for the children. Some games and activities require that the children engage and build their digital literacy skills.
The content writers are experts in the field of Education. There is clear scaffolding, anticipatory sets, review, comprehension quizzes, and learning objectives. The vocabulary is useful and contextual. The mini-stories are full of memorable characters, creative settings, and unbelievable adventures. As the levels increase, so does the challenge and rigor of the content. Higher-level lessons include famous artists, global issues, and classic novels.
For the most part, my available schedule is full, even during slow times. That is never a guarantee with any company, but Qkids has kept my schedule full so that I can consistently earn a viable income.
If I am needing an evening off, I can request it off with no penalty or fine. There is never a penalty or fine. You simply request off more than five hours in advance, and that is fine. Their standby system allows for teachers to take time off as needed. Even if you have a short notice cancelation, they are very understanding. If you need extended leave, that’s not a problem either. Communication is key.
5. Standby Pay
If you are scheduled for a standby class, and it doesn’t convert, you get paid half of the class pay and you only have to wait three minutes to see if it converts into a class. If it does not, you have that time to do what you want and you will be paid.
6. Compassionate Staff
I have NEVER encountered such an encouraging and understanding staff in all of my time in the industry. You are not chastised, they work with any technical or personal challenges that you may be facing, and they truly seem like caring, good-hearted people, who treat us like deserving human beings. That seems to be a rarity in the industry.
The pay turns out to be very good, considering there are two very easy to earn bonuses. Yes, I worked for one higher-paying company, but they didn’t book me and then fined me for something that was not my fault, so I don’t consider that higher-paying.
If you’re not convinced that Qkids is the best company, let me tell you one more thing. Remember during the first part of March when COVID hit North America and stay at home orders took effect? Well, many companies cut hours and pay for teachers. Qkids did the OPPOSITE. They understood the necessity of working from home for so many people, and not only did they open up the number of available teaching slots to basically all day and night, but they also included a $2.00 per class mega bonus incentive for teachers who taught 30 or more classes. Yes, this bonus was on top of the other two bonuses they have.
Qkids is the company that you have been searching for, trust me.
