Life does not always go as planned, but as the old saying goes, if life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Tiffany had a dream but life had other plans for her. Read on to find out how she overcame her challenges and made lemonade.
Hello everyone, my name is Tiffany and I teach English online for Qkids. Finding Qkids changed my life in ways I did not know were possible. Let me explain a little bit about my history. I went to college with the goal of becoming a Zookeeper. I received my Bachelor of Science in Environmental Studies and Conservation. I volunteered, did multiple internships, and worked hard to become a Zookeeper. I had a passion and love for animals and loved teaching others about them. I was finally happy in my career and working at a zoo that I loved. This quickly came to an end when I had some serious health problems come up. I was not allowed to work at the zoo or even drive. I felt lost and did not know what to do. I was heartbroken and sad that the career I had worked so hard for was disappearing in just a matter of weeks.
After being out of work I was not sure what to do. I could not drive which made finding a job hard. I had medical appointments and did not know what I could do for work that would fit my needs. One day while looking at an online job posting board for my college I saw an advertisement with a Koala on it. It was Koby and I clicked on it and began learning about Qkids. It sounded too good to be true at first, but the more I read the more I saw it was real. I was not sure how successful I would be teaching online and had many questions. I had done educational talks at the zoo but had no formal teaching experience. I also am very shy and not very outgoing. How could I teach children on the other side of the world and make it exciting? I was nervous that I was not going to like it but figured I would try it out. I also felt this void in my life still about losing my zoo career and did not think that I would have the same passion for teaching that I had for zookeeping.
It did not take long for my fears to go away. As soon as I met Koby Koala, Momo Monkey, and Frank Fox I was excited. The very first lesson I was teaching the names of animals to children. In my first few classes, I was nervous. I was doing something new. The thing is, my nerves went away quickly. You do not have time to think about being nervous. As soon as you hear the first giggle of the day, or a shy child smile for the first time, or a student remembers a word they are learning and get excited, you forget why you were nervous. I could list the reasons why this job is amazing but the list would never end. The kids made me want to be a better teacher and without realizing it I had a new passion.
When I stopped being a Zookeeper I thought I would never find that passion in another job again. But, I have learned I get to share my passion with the students I teach. I have taught so many lessons on animals, the environment, and nature. It is amazing seeing the students get excited about things I am also passionate about. My favorite thing is learning the student’s passions. I have had students play the piano for me, draw pictures, and tell me they do not like animals because they smell bad! One of my favorite moments was when a student told me she was sad because she did not like Koby and Momo. Oh no! I asked her whom she liked and she said Frank Fox was her favorite. I was so happy because he is my favorite and I had a fox picture close by. She was so happy when I showed it to her. It was a great moment I will never forget. All of these make me excited to get up and teach. The students have brought me out of my shell. Every single student has put passion back into my life.
I tell anyone interested in working for Qkids to go for it. Any hesitations you have will quickly fade once you meet those smiling faces. As I have said, Qkids has changed my life. Qkids made me more outgoing, gave me passion again, and allowed me to work from home. Thanks to Qkids I have also started working on my Master's Degree because I have more time in my day. Think about all the ways Qkids could make your life better.
Starting something new can be scary. That is why I am here. I can help you get started and help coach you. Preparing Your Teaching Background Hi Qkids teachers! Hope you are having a good week. Today Momo wants to share with you some helpful tips about how to set up your awesome teaching background. Many of you already have great props to attract students' attention; however, your teaching background is equally important since students see it for the entire class. A messy, unorganized background will not only distract students but also negatively impact your teacher rating. Your teaching style, outfit, lighting, and background all factor into your overall class rating. Below are some points you should pay attention to if you want to improve your teaching background: 1. The room lighting must be bright enough for students to see you clearly. You should try out different angles in your room and find the sweet spot . Do not point your camera toward the ceiling or light since it will be too bright for students to look at you. 2. The ideal class background
