Holidays and Themes - Wow, So Many Holidays!

Hello, teachers!

Wow, the holidays are here 🎄! Looking around and seeing all the Christmas lights, fireworks and snowmen is a remarkable experience. Although cultures around the world may differ, holidays are abundant in every single one. We wanted to share some of our experiences, and indulge in yours, too!

To begin, you may have noticed that classes may have a more festive take:

Holiday Themed Classes
This is our new approach at introducing holiday teaching within our classes! We can include lots of fun materials here to help the students understand the translations and culture behind holidays better. It is quite new, but something we hope to improve on. For Halloween, we introduced an interesting Jack-o'-lantern introduction screen, and for Thanksgiving, we made a thank you video to show a little more about the Qkids family and us. We wanted to take it even further for Christmas and future holidays!

For our Christmas themed classes, we featured a radical revamping and unique theme focused exclusively on the holiday. Not only were we able to include fun pictures of Santa and words like 'ornaments' or 'sleigh,' but we were also able to add holidays songs such as "Jingle Bell Rock" and "He Has a Red Red Coat"; still, we felt like we could do even more!
The holidays are often a time where families gather and share stories, converse, sing, and dance -- And that is what we did in our live stream! We've tinkered with the idea of showing the inside of the Qkids offices before, but we have never explored it with the depth as we did here. If you're interested in seeing more, you can find links to all live streams on our Facebook, listed below!

We have many more holidays upcoming, and one of great importance is the Spring Festival. The Spring Festival is a multi-day celebration that involves many different steps! Many families enjoy cleaning before the festival to help bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new year. 2018 is the year of the Dog 🐕, so expect dog themed decorations! As well, the reunion dinner is considered by many to be the most important dinner of the year, bringing together generations of families to laugh, enjoy food, and cherish each other's company. In America, many teachers enjoy watching the famous New York Time Square Ball and will stay up late. In China, many families will stay up late as well during the Spring Festival to watch the Spring Festival Gala! Finally, this is the festival where the famous red envelopes are exchanged. Red envelopes are thought to bring good luck and often contain money inside. 😇

We hope you found our holiday blog interesting! We love hearing your thoughts and learning more about your holiday traditions. What do you celebrate? What do you cherish? Please post your comments below!

Thank you,

-- The Qkids Family

  1. Thanks to the recent development here, there is no longer a place to be avoided at night. The LA event venues have perfect location for a classy, elegant event. It’s great when everyone gathers for an incredible picture.

Qkids Teacher 101 - Preparing Your Teaching Background

Preparing Your Teaching Background Hi Qkids teachers!

Hope you are having a good week. Today Momo wants to share with you some helpful tips about how to set up your awesome teaching background.
Many of you already have great props to attract students' attention; however, your teaching background is equally important since students see it for the entire class. A messy, unorganized background will not only distract students but also negatively impact your teacher rating. Your teaching style, outfit, lighting, and background all factor into your overall class rating.

Below are some points you should pay attention to if you want to improve your teaching background: 1. The room lighting must be bright enough for students to see you clearly. You should try out different angles in your room and find the sweet spot. Do not point your camera toward the ceiling or light since it will be too bright for students to look at you.
2. The ideal class background is you facing against a wall. It can …
